Pigmentation Treatment

Treat brown spots and facial discolouration at Milan Skin Clinic

CLEAR

If you are looking to achieve an even skin tone, free from pigmentation, this treatment is the perfect choice for you.

As well as freckles, skin pigmentation can appear in the form of age spots, sun spots, or large patches of discoloured skin. Hyperpigmentation is the excess production of melanin, appearing as localised patches and blotches that are darker than the surrounding skin. At Milan Skin Clinic we use the state of the art 3D Trilogyice advanced laser, combining three wave lengths to treat many common forms of pigmentation.

Treatment Areas

Our 3D Trilogyice advanced laser combines three wave lengths for optimal results and versatility when treating an array of issues:

  • HYPERPIGMENTATION
  • SUN SPOTS ON THE FACE, HANDS, OR DECOLLETAGE AREA
  • ACNE / FACIAL SCARRING
  • UNEVEN SKIN TONE
  • BODILY SCARRING AND STRETCH MARKS.
  • FRECKLES

your questions answered

FAQS
  • There are several types of hyperpigmentation, the most common of which are sun spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and melasma.

    • Sun spots (also called liver spots) are a common form of pigmentation, caused by excessive exposure to the sun. Typically, they appear as spots on exposed areas of skin such as the hands and face.
    • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is the result of injury to or inflammation of the skin. Acne is a common cause of this type of pigmentation.
    • Melasma is caused by hormonal changes and often develops during pregnancy. Areas of hyperpigmentation tend to appear on the stomach and face. Laser treatment is not appropriate for this type of pigmentation.

If you have hormone-related pigmentation, laser treatment is not for you. Other common types of skin pigmentation can be treated by laser therapy, but in some cases, medical grade skin products such as Obagi Nu derm might be a better solution. We will advise you of the best option for you during your consultation.

  • Light energy from the laser is absorbed by the pigment in the darkened area of skin and converted to heat energy, which breaks down the pigment itself.

  • Previous generations of skin resurfacing lasers were known to redden the entire surface of the skin in the treated areas, but at Milan Skin Clinic, we use industry-leading laser technology that only targets tiny areas of the skin and causes minimal harm to the surface. Redness and downtime are minimised.

  • Some patients say they feel a mild stinging sensation at moments, but it is easy to tolerate and passes quickly.

  • Laser treatment produces visible results that need protecting. Sun exposure can reverse those results, creating new instances of pigmentation, so we advise using a sunblock whenever exposing yourself to direct sunlight.
