your questions answered

FAQS
  • The outer layers of your skin carry the most wear, whether from exposure to too much sunlight, wrinkles, pigmentation, acne, or acne scarring. Chemical peels remove those damaged outer layers of skin to reveal smoother, younger-looking skin beneath.

  • Many people feel very little pain during a light or medium peel, although some might experience a burning sensation which fades after 5 to 10 minutes, followed by a stinging sensation.

  • For most people, chemical peels are safe, but it’s important to have the treatment performed by a professional clinician who takes the time to assess your skin first. Any concerns can be addressed during your consultation at Milan Skin Clinic. People with sensitive skin or dark sin might choose to stick to lighter peels, and doctors advise you should avoid chemical peels altogether if you:

    • Have taken the oral medication for acne in the past 6 months
    • Have a personal or family history of enlarged or raised scars caused by an overgrowth of tissue (keloids)
    • Are pregnant
    • Have regular or severe outbreaks of cold sores.
  • Depending on the depth of your peel, the treatment will take between 30 and 90 minutes.

    • Use cold water to wash and soothe your face, as warm or hot water can cause discomfort to your healing skin.
    • Avoid picking at the dead skin as it peels away – picking can cause scarring.
    • If you have long hair, pull it back with a band to keep it off your face. Your skin needs time to heal, so any kind of contact of the hands or hair should be avoided.
    • Avoid strenuous workouts, dry saunas, and steam rooms, all of which put strain on your healing skin.
    • Use any skin care products recommended by your clinician.
    • Don’t exfoliate. Your skin needs to peel in its own time.
