Doctors first used Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for medical purposes in Europe in 2005. According to a study published in August 2016 in the American Journal of Clinical Dermatology, PRP helped promote wound healing, often in plastic surgery, orthopaedics, and sports medicine. Plasma is a substance found in the blood that contains platelets, which promotes cell growth. PRP is an effective and popular treatment for hair loss as the stem cells and fibrin in the plasma mix repair dormant hair follicles on a cellular level, triggering hair regrowth while also increasing the strength and thickness of new, individual hairs.
What happens during the treatment?
During a PRP session, our practitioner will take a sample of your blood which is then spun in a centrifuge to extract plasma. We apply a topical numbing cream to ensure the procedure is comfortable and then the plasma is injected into the scalp. The procedure is relatively painless and requires zero recovery time.
Who is PRP for?
PRP has been shown to help both men and women. Male-pattern baldness and hair thinning due to menopause are the most common concerns among our clients.
When will I see results from my treatment?
PRP doesn’t deliver results immediately, so you shouldn’t expect to see a full head of hair overnight. The exact schedule of your treatment plan will depend on a few factors, including the amount of hair loss you’re dealing with, as well as your age, hormones, and genetics. Our practitioners will assess your hair loss and develop a personalised plan to give you the best results possible. However, you’ll likely start seeing regrowth before your third appointment.
