CHEMICAL PEELS: What you should know

A chemical peel is solution applied to the face to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new cells. The aim is to improve the appearance of the skin – for example, by reducing age spots and evening out skin tone or help with acne. There are 3 types of peels, called superficial, medium and deep.

What’s the difference between superficial, medium-depth, and deep peels?

Each kind removes the top layers of your skin to different depths, which lets smooth skin grow back. Superficial peels use mild acids that remove dull, dead skin cells to brighten the skin.

Medium peels involve slightly stronger acids that go deeper. They’re better at targeting age spots, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Deep peels use even stronger acids to make more dramatic improvements in the skin’s appearance. These work best on fair-skinned people with moderate lines or shallow scars. They also carry more risk for side effects, including changes in skin colour and even scarring.

How long does it take to recover from a chemical peel?

It depends. No matter which type of peel you get, be patient. If you have a superficial peel, you’ll likely see some redness and irritation for up 3-4 days. If you get medium-depth treatment, it may be 1-2 weeks before you look your best. Deep peels may take 3 weeks or longer to recover.#

What are the side effects of a chemical peel?

The most common side effects of superficial and medium peels include redness, irritation, and in some cases skin flaking. Usually around 3rd day after a procedure people experience dryness and skin tightness. Although most side effects are temporary.

Will one chemical peel make a difference?

A single chemical peel can work wonders in smoothing the skin, but multiple treatments will maintain the smooth skin for months and years to come. The treatments work by removing the outer layer of the skin in order to reveal the newer, healthier and smoother skin underneath or help to fight with acne by balancing your healthy skin microbiome.

What are the top benefits of a chemical peel?

  1. Treats acne
  2. Minimizes pores
  3. Fades discoloration and evens the overall skin tone
  4. Smooths texture and reduce scarring
  5. Erase fine lines and wrinkles
  6. Treats blemishes and post inflammation pigmentation/scarring
  7. This treatment is one of the most effective options not requiring invasive option. Some clients pair this treatment with other treatments to achieve best effects possible. For others, it’s comforting to know that they can achieve their desired look without surgery.
